There is a familiar dynamic that every physician interested in expert witness work eventually runs into.

Malpractice expert work appeals to many clinicians. It pays well, it's intellectually honest work, and it lets you apply your clinical judgment in a more focused way that genuinely matters.

The problem arises because most attorneys want experienced experts–and you can’t blame them. There is a lot at stake and attorneys need to be sure they have an expert who knows their specialty and who presents well. But to become an experienced expert, prospects need cases. And to get cases, you need to experience.

You recognize this loop. Perhaps you’ve been in it yourself at one point; maybe you’re in it now. It's the same one that confronts every new graduate, every first-time applicant, every clinician trying to break into something new. You can't get hired without experience, and you can't get experience without getting hired.

What makes breaking into expert work particularly frustrating is that the gap between those who get served cases regularly and those who never get off the ground is not a gap in competence. It's a gap in connections. The same names show up in the similar cases because attorneys default to familiarity when the stakes are high. That's not irrational. But it does mean the market functions more like an oligarchy than a meritocracy.

And physicians know it. The competition is palpable. Many experts accordingly spend real money—directory listings, professional referral services—trying to get their name in front of the right attorneys. Most of that investment offers little clear returns. The physicians who do break through often do so through luck of geography, a well-timed connection, or sheer persistence. Talent, it turns out, is neither necessary nor sufficient.

    Experitas challenges this traditional model.

Experitas’ platform democratizes expert work and rewards high performance, rather than flashy marketing. was built to challenge that model.

Our platform matches board-certified physicians, many of whom have extensive expert experience, with appropriate cases to draw on their expertise. Experitas only offers case reviews to accomplished experts. We incentivize quality and reliability, rather than connections. This allows us to offer our attorney clients not only high-quality standard of care reviews, but reliable referrals to experts who are already familiar with their case.

Unlike the expert witness marketplace writ large, Experitas tracks and incentivizes physicians’ performance. Those with the highest-quality, most efficient reviews earn more cases. It’s as simple as that. By doing so, we believe that Experitas is encouraging meritocracy in the medical malpractice marketplace.

First case. Second case. Third case. Each subsequent one earned by virtue of the objectively determined reputation of each expert.

That's how it should work. That's how Experitas is building it to work.

If you're an experienced, board-certified physician who has been wondering about breaking into the expert witness market from the outside, but feeling reluctant because finding the way in is overwhelming. Your qualifications aren’t the issue; it's the system. Experitas is the solution. We are opening the front door and democratizing expert work for the benefit of our attorney clients, the injured patients or accused physicians they serve, and for the many capable experts who are just waiting for their chance.
